Hi AVP,
PAW – Plasma Arc Welding is an umbrella term.
Acc to ISO 4063:2009, Corrected version 2010-03-01(Welding and allied processes - Nomenclature of processes and reference numbers) includes PAW (reference no. 15) the following processes:
Plasma MIG welding (reference no. 151)
Powder plasma arc welding (reference no. 152)
Plasma welding with transferred arc (reference no. 153)
Plasma arc welding with non-transferred arc (reference no. 154)
Plasma arc welding with semi-transferred arc (reference no. 155).
Plasma welding with transferred arc is usually used for an overlay process. Therefore please have a look to ASME IX, table QW-257.1, Welding variables procedure specifications (WPS)
Plasma-Arc Welding (PAW), Special Process Variables.
In this table is QW-410.48 “A change in transfer mode” indicated as an essential welding variable:
Code:
QW-410.48: A change in the constricted arc from transferable to nontransferable or vice versa.
This means "PLASMA TRANSFERRED ARC WELDING (PTA) PROCESS” is covered under ASME Sec IX.
Hope that helps
