Plate type heat exchanger with plate pack as one chamber inside the shell (outer chamber)
don't have inspection openings in demanded size of UG-46-mostly just nozzles with smaller size than demanded.
Acc. UG-46 (a) inspection openings can be omitted only in fixed tubesheet heat exchangers.
Unfortunately I don't find any information regarding inspection openings in
plate type heat exchangers in the code-so UG-46 must be applied!?.
For my point of view it makes no sense to have inspection openings in the shell because
the plates inside are very close to the shell and there is no space for cleaning or inspection.
Anyway, the size of the inspection opening needs to be just as big as you need for an endoscope
if really anyone visit the inner surface.
Has anyone an idea?

Plare type heat exchangers are beyond the Scope of Section VIII-1, I do not see any rules in VIII-2.
If you cannot go inside the vessel, manhole is of no use otherwise it would be just a formality.
