Dear all,

AI want to see the original Purchase order from our customer, he said per Code he needs to review it, and my boss thinks that is a company confidential. Can any gentleman here show me in where of the code says AI has the right to see it. or what? Thank you!

Have a wonderful day

Jeff

For non-nuclear jobs the accepted purchase order date defines the Code Edition and addenda to be considered in the construction of the component.
Other important user's requirements might be included in the PO, as explained under U-2. In such case they must be translated into the design documents. Apppendix 10-15 gives the right to the AI to have access to ALL documents that might carry relevant information for the design, fabrication and inspection of the component.
Hope this explanation can convince your boss! :-)

Hi Magalhaes,

Thank you so much for your quick reply. But, still I can not say the PO is so important for AI. Please indicate which item in para U-2 delieved the message. I really appreciate your assistance.

Cheers

Jeff

Here are some Code statements:
"UG-90 (c)(1) The Inspector shall make all inspections specifically required of him plus such other inspections as he believes are necessary…."
10-15 (d) "The Manufacturer’s Quality Control System shall provide for the Inspector at the Manufacturer’s plant to have access to all drawings, calculations, specifications, procedures, process sheets, repair procedures, Proof Test Reports, records, test results, and any other documents as necessary for the Inspector to perform his duties in accordance with this Division. The Manufacturer may provide such access either to his own files of such documents or by providing copies to the Inspector."

I can not imaging what kind of cofidential data may by on a PO. PO Exhibit is shown in your QC Manual, is it? You must provide the AI with any document listed in your QC Manual. Also, all documents used to ensure Code compiance shall be exhibited in your QC Manual. After all, the AI has a right not to sign your Manufacturer’s Data Report. Does your boss want this?

Hi AI-or-Us,

What AI wanted is the po from customer, not those ones of us for purchasing materials. Still, non of these items of code mentioned that PO.

Thank you anyway

As an AI, I would not ask for it.
I think to have the right to ask the Manufacturr to state in his design report all loadings considered as per UG 22, and to document to have reconciled request of the Customer with the Code (see your QC Manual at this point). Date of the contract should also be available to establish mandatory Ed.&Add. of the Code. Period.
As a Manufacturer I would give to the AI copy of the contract after having cancelled all non technical aspects.
If after these considerations the dispute stands it means there is something different than technical aspects.

Jeff,

I am sorry for misunderstanding. We (in my part of the world) automatically interpret Purchase Orders as a Manufacturer’s issued documents. What you call Customer PO we call customer specifications.

As AI, I look at customer specs from time to time. Shop people encourage me to do so believing this would be for their benefits. I still can not understand what kind of confidential information may be found in customer specs. Also, it is a Manufacturer’s responsibility to ensure that customer specs are in compliance with the Code. This is written in your QC Manual and may be a subject of the AI review.

Regards

Hi Gentlemen,

Thank you so much for your reply. I was just assuming those sales here don't even want me to know the price either. Sounds funny, but it's true. I never see any customer PO here before. I don't care. Anyway, I really appreciate your assistance.

Wish you all the best

Jeff

Just kidding. On the other hand, it depends on the job. You can have jobs of different degree of confidentiality. Sometimes documents are allowed to be seen only by a specific range of people, and if someone forgot to enlist the AI in the nondisclosure agreement, it may be a problem. It takes an experienced PM to remember such things :-)
