Hi Everyone,

Is it possible use a PQR(prepared acc. to Sec IX) with EN material S235JR (which is listed in Sec IX table QW/QB422 as P1 material) for manufacturing Sec I Boiler or Sec VIII vessel

Dr. Koelbl;

Ordinarily I would have responded just about exactly as you did, however in giving it more thought (and admit I haven't pulled the books out) in which instances / Codes are use of ASME Materials mandatory; i.e., SA for example?

A senior eng. told me if a material not listed in Section 2 tables it cannot be used to qualify WPQR. S235JR not listed Section II D tables.
But i could not find any code reference supporting his argument.
I think his argument is wrong. S235JR was used only to qualify WPQR because it is listed as P1 material, not actually manufacture a vessel.

any comments?

Just checked VIII, Div 1 (did NOT check Section I, will let you do your own research there) BUT according to VIII, Div 1, I believe you are okay and covered by MATERIALS; UW-5 GENERAL.
