Hello

Alloy 20 is designated as SB 463 UNS 08020. How can I get preheat as well as interpass info on this material.

I checked ASME Sec VIII Div. 1 Appendix R. It lists preheat info for P nos. 1 to 11. I presume preheat for other P nos. is not required.

I checked ASME Sec VIII DIv 1 UNF-56. It says the PWHT is not normally necessary nor desirable.

I could not get any info on interpass temperature. I believe that the electrode mfg. might print this info on the carton. We would use ERNiCr-3 electrodes.

I really appreciate your opinions.

I can't help directly, sorry. But:
http://www.matweb.com/search/quicktext. ... UNS+N08020
there are some material manufacturers. Find their web pages, search for technical data, call their technical representative, ask questions.
Go to ESAB or other welding consumables manufacturer, find the right material and go to technical data. Find their technical people and ask.
The knowledge is there, they are happy to share it. Just take your time and get it!

Basically no preheat + Max. 150degree interpass are recommended.

Dear Noel Tan,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Can you please provide a basis for your recommendation of Interpass Temperature. Because I checked with a welding specialist and he said 125 deg C from a Sandwik catalog.

Thanks again.
