When working with ASME codes, how does one know, if a device or machine is classified as a pressure vessel? In other words, what is the definition for the pressure vessel that is to be treat according to the code regulations?

U-1 SCOPE (Introduction section). But mind you, there's a real world beyond the ASME Code: local regulations in the location of installation (and sometimes fabrication also) cannot be ignored- in fact applicable laws always take precedence over the engineering codes.

This question was the reason to put the CODEFINDER on this homepage. It should help to find the applicable Sections and or the applicable exemptions.
