Dear All
I have inspection accordance with ASME Section VIII Div.2 and base metal is ASTM A517, please help me with the requirements for PWHT:
In AF-630 said: for Q&T steel shall be PWHT accorded a Table AF-630.1, however AF-612 (f) said may be waived provided special conditions.
Inquiry: Is possible waived PWHT accordance with AF-612 (f)?
Thank you for your answer.

AF-630 POSTWELD HEAT TREATMENT
Vessels or parts of vessels constructed of quenched and tempered steels shall be postweld heat treated when required in Table AF-630.1, when welding ferritic materials greater than 1⁄8 in. (3 mm) thick with the electron beam welding process, and when welding materials of all thicknesses using the inertia and continuous drive friction welding processes. When determining the thickness requiring postweld heat treatment in Table AF-630.1 for clad or weld deposit overlayed vessels or parts of vessels, the total thickness of the base material shall be employed.

(f) The PWHT as required by Table AF-630.1 may be waived for SA-517 and SA-592 materials with a nominal thickness over 0.58 in. to 11⁄4 in. (15 mm to 31 mm), inclusive, provided the following conditions are met

Why are you not using Edition 2007 or later?

Since from the number of Chapter you mention it means that you are applying to an Edition of the Code before 2007. Therefore Dirk means that you should apply to a current Edition. Starting from Ed 2007 Sect. VIII Div.2 has completely changed.
From your attitude I suspect that your material is not in the heat treatment conditions you say. It would be like giving a live ammunition to a child. Scuse me I do not want to offend you, only to strongly advise you not to enter in a job without knowing all implications. You could, at least, loose a lot of money.

I am reading again your question. It is clearly a study question, you are not going to construct such an Item. So, if you want to study, I recommend you to read the last Code edition 2010, there is no sense to apply to a superseded one.
