Hi all,

Can a nozzle be place on category A none RT tested weld joint or not. UW-14(a) sounds like yes, rest of the paragraph seems no. Any one here has idea? Thank you.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Paragraph UW-14(a) allow any type of opening that meets the requirements for reinforcement given in UG-37 or UG-39 may be located in a welded joint (including Cat A) :D .

So, May I question that is there any reinforcement calculation provide for the said nozzle to be put on cat A seam in order to apply UW-14(a)? .

Paragraph UW-14(b) and (c) talking about nozzles those are exempted from reinforcement calculation as defined in UG-36(c)(3).

Best regards,

Surachai

Hi Tony,

Single Opening with inherent compensation as definded in UG-36(c)(3) may not be located in a solid plate so that the edge of opending closer than 13 mm from the edge of category A, B, or C in the vessel which has maximum thickness of 38 mm. (ref para. UW-14(d))

Single opening with inherent compensation as defined in UG-36(c)(3) may be located in category B or C butt welded joint if RT is examined for a length of 3 times the diameters of the opening is done and meet the requirement according to UW-51. (ref para. UW-14(b))

Single opening with inherent compensation as defined in UG-36(c)(3) may be located in a welded joint if that opening meet the reinforcement requirement of para UG-37 or UG-39.

I hope this will answer to your question

Best regards,

Surachai

Thank you again Surachai,

After fit-up done, if I found the fitter opened a 1" hole for a coupling at wrong position for some reasons, and the correction orizental turn to be in shell long seam now. What should we do? Shrow whole vessel to recycle bin?

Does any body here experience this?

Regards

Tony

You may provide reinforcement calculation for 1" nozzle at the location of the shell long seam according to the applicable paragraph e.g. UG-37. Read my first answer please.

Best regards,

Surachai

Thank you Surachai,

So you mean we have to provide reinforcement even if it is not really needed. Thank you anyway
