Hi,

I have a query regarding the readily radiographable nozzle weld details :- Table 4.2.13 detail no 3.

In this detail no 3, two additional thicknesses are indicated i.e. t3 and t4 at a distance of 13 mm from the starting edge of the weld. However I am not able to find out the actual use of these two additional thickness n the Div II code. I want to use this detail for the lip type forged nozzle.

I feel that these thicknesses (t + t3 + t4) can be used to cope with the difference in the allowables of the shell material and the forging material. Can we consider the t3 + t4 shall be obtained from the ratio of the allowable of the shell material to forging material? Similar kind of philosophy is indicated in ASME B16.5 flange to alloy pipe welding (however both codes are different and welding location is different.)

If my understanding is not correct, then is there any requirement to cope up with the difference in the allowables of the nozzle forging material and shell material at the lip junction where the lip forging will become a part of shell?

Thanks in advance.
Vishal
