Hi,

what is the rule for use by example SA 351 or A351, even if the equivalent edition of A351 according ASME III is correct ? For pressure part , could we use A351 with the good edition? and in the same time apply the other requirements of section III, NB NC ND.

Thank you for your help.

Well, if your customer is purchasing SA-351 you must supply SA-351.
Why supply some other material, that is not requested?
After all NX-2121 is referencing to the material spec listed in Section II Part D, and there you find only SA- spec.

I do not understand why you intend to use an ASTM spec to certify the material.

Are you sure? Section II Part A table ED-1 has a preamble which says "...material produced under an ASTM Specification listed in Table ED-1 may be used in lieu of the corresponding ASME Specification..." According to this table, editions 86 to 00 of ASTM A351, are listed as acceptable. Of course, a CMTR would still be required.

I am sure.

The COnstruction Code is the boss. NX-2121 overruns section II part A.

You are both right. ASTM can be accepted as ASME material as being identical with ASTM Spec for grade class per NCA 1221.1
