Hello,

Has anyone incorporated the seismic loads per PIP VECV1001 in vessel designs?

The equation is the same as UBC-97 equation 32-1. PIP states that if this load is too conservation the alternative can be used (something about fundamental variable T). I was wondering if COMPRESS or PVElite can incorporate these seismic loads and how to go about implementing them in the software.

thanks

kellie

Hello Kellie,
T is the fundamental period of vibration. E.g. according to UBC 1997, 1634.3 rigid structures with T less than 0.06 has to be calculated for a load obtained from formula 34-1. Compress is considering this formula as well as the formulas 32-1, 2 and 3 you have mentioned for the determination of the total lateral force for vessels mounted in buildings.
