I got in one spec the following criteria abt the use of Hot Box-----

Skirt Hot Box detail to be used when Design Temp > 340 C or Skirt OD*Skirt Thk*Design Temp >1.6*10^7

But my query is
1.What is hot box?
2. How it helps in reducing the thermal gradient?
3. How it looks like and how it is attached to the shell?
