Dear Sirs,
I m having some doubts while ordering materials.
Actually my complete column will undergo the stress releving cycle at 595 degree celcius for 1hr & 50 minutes. I m having confusion for some STD materials like SA 106 GR B, SA 234 GR WPB, SA 105. Is this materials will undergo SPWHT for above mentioned SR cycle as all the above are STD items to be procured. How can i decide that materials requires SPWHT (simulation PWHT)?
Also what about SPWHT for internals of material SA 240 GR 304 L?

Hello DK sir,

Thanks for your reply....

I read UCS-85. As per UCS-85(e) PWHT is not required for STD items specified in UG-11(a) i.e. pipe fittings, flanges, nozzles, welding necks, welding caps.

So, this means that my vessel is going under PWHT, but still the STD parts like flanges of ASME B-16.5, pipes of ASME B-36.10 & 36.19, SS & CS fittings, does not required SPWHT?

As per code, if you are using a material from P No 1 Group 1 & 2, simulated heat treatment is not required for any of the item including plates if heat treatment during fabrication is at a temperature below lower transformation temperature of steel.

You need to however check if it is required as per client specification.

Dear Sirs,

Can anyone please tell me what is the technical reason behind these STD parts do not required SPWHT as per code (UCS-85)?

Basically my question is, after performing PWHT of vessel along with all these STD fittings, flanges, pipes, how i am sure about the strength of these parts is as same as before performing PWHT?
