Dear all,
My company has decided to acquire ASME Stamps, and my question is this:
Most of my company's scope is Pressure Vessels (H.E., Towers, Reactors), so we believe that U and U2 stamps will cover our needs for certification. In order to be certified for piping works (both acc. to B31.1 and B31.3) in-shop or in-field, which stamp is required? PP as I have noticed, requires the B31.1 book to be bought, so probably does not cover the B31.3 piping... Does U stamp cover the piping? Please note that performing piping works on site, would probably require repair works on piping... So do I also need an R stamp?
Thank you in advance

Teokal,

I advise to ask your AI for the best scope.

Piping is not included in Section VIII, there is no Certificate for B31.3. Please refer to U-1 for the scope.

Like the Doctor stated piping is not addressed in VIII.

The U cert would cover pressure vessels, a PP cert would cover the fabrication of power piping and an R stamp would allow you to make repairs and/or alterations to pvs or boilers and B31.1 piping.

You will need a insurance company to insure you and with that you get an AI Authorized Inspector who will guide you thru the process of generating a QA/QC Manual and then the review/audit in acquiring the "stamps".
