The stamp is not required for construction. It's necessary for certification, ie you can't fill the MDR and get it signed by AI without the appropriate certificate from ASME. See Sec VIII-1 UG-90(b)(1), UG-116(a)(1)(a), UG-117, or other applicable sections.

Gents,

as per the foreword of ASME Code, CONSTRUCTION is an all-inclusive term including design, material, fabrication, examination inspection and testing. Only items constructed in accordance with all applicable requriements, including QC system and inspection and ASME Certificate, may be stamped.

All the "non-stamped" or "ASME-like" or similar items are not clearly defined and a risk to purchaser and manufacturer.

Right, I meant just the build. The common understanding of the word "construction" :-)

Hi,

Every item built (constructed) per ASME Code, except standard parts as per UG-11, must have a code stamping as required by a specific Construction Code Section, (Section I, or III, or IV, or VIII (Div. 1, or 2, or 3).

Thanks,

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code provides rules for the construction of boilers, pressure vessels, and nuclear components. This includes requirements for materials, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, and stamping.

Items constructed in accordance with all of the applicable rules of the Code are identified with the official Code Symbol Stamp described in the governing Section of the Code.

Markings such as “ASME,” “ASME Standard,” or any other marking including “ASME” or the various Code Symbols shall not be used on any item that is not constructed
in accordance with all of the applicable requirements of the Code.

Items shall not be described on ASME Data Report Forms nor on similar forms referring to ASME that tend to imply that all Code requirements have been met when, in fact, they have not been.

Data Report Forms covering items not fully complying with ASME requirements should not refer to ASME or they should clearly identify all exceptions to the ASME requirements

---

Bottomline - Built to ASME code and /or Designed to ASME code are not in compliance with ASME code, regardless of client's wishes.
