In AWS D1.1 there is a statement which says that a tack welding can be carried out through approved WPS , or Prequalified WPS and Approved Welder performance qualification. My question is, Whether there any statement mentioned in ASME sec IX about Tack welding qualifications . If so then what are the mechanical or NDT test to be carried out for welder Performance qualification.

Please read my post titled: "Likely the single most MIS-understood part of ASME IX."

ASME is not a cook book. The constructing codes will dictate what qualifications are required for tack welders.
