The base metal thickness range specified as per QW-45.1 is 5mm to 2T. Can any advice from where the value of T is to be taken.

Regards

T is the thickness of the test coupon, that was welded. It shall be recorded in the PQR..

The max. thickness of test coupon recorded in the PQR is 25mm. So the thickness range should be between 5mm to 50mm. While our client used the range of 5mm to 30mm.

Please confirm

Ikram,

I can not confirm what your client is using, but what is your problem??

Let us assume we have P-1 material, SMAW and impact testing is not required.
If the test coupon was 25 mm, and the WPS specifies 5 thru 30 mm, it is correctly qualified.
The range could be bigger, but maybe the manufacturer has reasons to limit the thickness, e.g. PWHT requirements, or preheating, it is his authority to limit.

As an inspector I need to check if the thickness in production is in the specified range 5 to 30mm. This also applies to tubesheets, flange rings, and other attachments.
