Hi all,

Is there in ASME given tolerance regarding pitting of material. If no, any practical acceptance criteria that available.?

See paragraph no. 9 of SA-20 in ASME Section II Part A.
Normally pitting is not permitted because these cause surface imperfections. These may become stress risers. If pitting is svere (means if it is deep and/or prevails over an appreciable area), grind the surface, do DPT. If after grinding, thickness meets minimum design thickness and DPT results are okay, then it is fine. If thickness goes below minimum design thickness, then you may do weld build up but do not forget requirements of para. 9.4 of SA-20 in Section II-A.
