Dear Srs.

We're making a small vertical pressure filter to realize some tests in the our customer, its material is 316L.
We would like to build the body with a transparent material to our customer sees the filtration and the leaves covered with the filtraded product, but we didn't find it in ASME Material.

Is there this mateiral or antoher kind of transparent material ?

Thanks
Mgalter

Are you sure you really need to U-stamp it if it's just for testing?

It’s not a sure exactly, but a tentative to find this material or looks like it, it was built with AS 240 S31603 and we're researching this kind of material.

Do you know it or seemed ?

The thing is SecVIII-1 allows the use only of listed materials, and they are all metals. However, gaskets or sightglasses are not in the list, and they are used commonly. But I'm sure you can't justify a glass or plastic design of a U-stamped shell of a pressure vessel without a request for a code revision or a code case. Good luck.

I understand that you are asking for some recommednation for a transparent material. Well, give more details then: pressure, temperature, diameter, medium.
Konrad

Well, you can get this sort of enclosures made of clear plastic for domestic tap water, but not that big.

Try mcmaster.com to find a clear acrylic or pvc pipe (it's damn big size!), but a dished head... forget it.

Mauro, you're like a god speaking through profets mouth :-)
Anyway, can you please tell us how do you approach a design with sightglasses?

Sight glasses are not within the scope of Sect.VIII. Vessel's Code boundary is before it.

We gave up this idea, and we will build it in stainless steel 316 L

Thanks

Mauro, do you mean that a U-stamped vessel cannot have sight glasses?

Can have, sure, but sight glasses are outside the scope of Sect.VIII.
