When tapping the tubeside face of a tubesheet to pull a bundle from a unit.....does the remaining material under the tapped hole have to be at least or greater than the tubesheet minimum required thickness?????

This could substantially increase the tubesheet thickness.

Any other way to accomplish this without increasing the thickness????

Hello Fernandez

I am supposing you are you going to provide these pulling holes in the portion beyond the outer tube limit of the tubesheet.

in that case you have to provide jack screw arrangement.

I am assuming there are 2 tapped holes.

The holes will be in between bolt holes. Now if you are worried about tubesheet flanged extension thickness, you can refer to ASME sec VIII Div:01 mandatory appendix 2-9 (b) Split loose flange and do the design.

Opinions are most welcome.

Either leave the pulling eye bolts in place or fit threaded plugs. Thickness below the tubesheet need not be increased.
