Hello.

Lets say a shell is attached to a formed head, one of them is thinner than the other.

In case of low temperature operation, which part will fail first? A Thick part or a thin part. I believe that a thick part is more prone to failure. If that is the case, in UCS-66, at some places the governing thickness is thinner of the two parts while at some places it is thicker. Why is it so?

Thanks a lot.

Appreciate it.

Ask yourself, is material selected are according to design conditions & Code ? which willl fail first the joint and HAZ or the seamless parts? nozzles that are thinner than you main component?thin internal clips with fillet welds? factory defect materials? did the testing requirements done as per code? did service temp exceeded?
