UG-100 Said:
Quote:
The visual inspection of the vessel at the required test
pressure divided by 1.1 may be waived provided:
(1) a suitable gas leak test is applied;
(2) substitution of the gas leak test is by agreement
reached between Manufacturer and Inspector;
(3) all welded seams which will be hidden by assembly
be given a visual examination for workmanship prior
to assembly;
(4) the vessel will not contain a “lethal” substance.

Does this paragraph mean that, the AI can give up witness the inspection if above 1~4 meet/

is there any guide for the gas leak test adopted by ASME VIII-1.--Does the ASME V Artical 10 appenix 1 would be chosen,

if so, how to chose the bubble solution, code said
Quote:
Household soap or detergents are
not permitted as substitutes for bubble testing solutions.

in my opinion, AI does not have to perform visual inspection since the vessel has subjected to leak test, but AI still should make sure the pneumatic test performed at required 1.1xMAWP( i think witness is necesssary), so as to prove its strength.
i have no idea what soap should be used,i did not see the quoted prohibition, would you like to tell the detailed paragraph?

ASME V ARTICLE 10
MANDATORY APPENDICES
APPENDIX I — BUBBLE TEST —
DIRECT PRESSURE TECHNIQUE

Quote:
I-1032 Bubble Solution
(a) The bubble forming solution shall produce a film
that does not break away from the area to be tested, and
the bubbles formed shall not break rapidly due to air drying
or low surface tension.Household soap or detergents are
not permitted as substitutes for bubble testing solutions.

I think only this method only for leak test, not for the pneumatic test.

so I think it is acceptable if use detergents to oberve the pneumatic test at Ptest/1.1,

Paul, There are professional fluids for leak tests available on the market.
Alternatively, a leak test could be performed submerged in water, for example.

Witnessing by the AI of the pneumatic test IS REQUIRED. Only the close examination may be substituted as addressed.
