Does anyone knows if there is any requirements in the Code regarding to ultrasonic examination for thicker plates(38mm) ?

I suppose you refer to Code Case 2235-9 " Use of Ultrasonic Examination in Lieu of Radiography Section 1; Section VIII Divisions 1 and 2; and Section XII". The inquiry was: "Under what conditions and limitations may an ultrasonic examination be used in lieu of radiography,...".

Thank you for your response, but I am refering to ultrasonic examination on plates, not on welds. For SA-516 in Section II, for instance, there are some supplementary requirements including ultrasonic examination. My question is if it is mandatory per Code in some circunstances.

Hi,

please consider the Construction Code for the required UT of plates. It depends on the use whether or not a UT shall be ordered by one of the supplemental requirements. ASME Code Section III, NB-2500 requires a full UT, where Section IV does not.
