Asme Sec-VIII Div-2-2007 help in the following way:
1. FOR RECTANGULAR VESSEL, WE HAVE NO CODE CALCULATION , SO WHENEVER ANY RECTANGULAR VESSEL IS PUT UNDER DIV-2, WE HAV TO DESIGN IT BY DIV-1 CODE.NOW WE CAN DESIGN IT BY DIV-2.
2. SAME THINGS HAPPEN FOR TUBESHEET DESIGN OF HEAT EXCHANGER.

Use of 2007 edition is having lot of advantages some of them are -

1) Reduced factor of safety from 3 to 2.4, will reduce shell thickness; saving in material

2) Option for local RPE approval of UDS and MDR, which will reduce time and cost for Div.02 stamping.

3) Use of RT in lieu of UT, which will reduce cost

Mechie

Is it UT in lieu of RT or RT in lieu of UT?

Both, as described in Table 7.2 (RT or UT)

Paresh,

the question is interesting but a bit outdated.

The use of Edition 2007 is mandatory for all vessels purchased 1 January 2008 or later.
There was another year of transition with a Code Case, but that is over.

As of Jan 2009 Ed 07 and Addenda 08 are mandatory.
And in two weeks Addenda 09 will be mandatory.

The Edition 2007 and later addenda have been completely re-written. Not only the few points mentioned below, but many other items were changed.
In my opinion, it is a great benefit for the manufacturers because the new Div 2 is a modern code and enables to construct engineered pressure vessels in an appropriate manner.
When combibing with the PED, div 2 is giving additional advantages to the user compared to div. 1.

DK

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO USE OUTDATED CODEBOOKS and not to use outdated software.

DK

Certification by a RPE registered in US or canada only is no longer a mandatory requirement;

Code:
2.A.2.2 Any Engineer that signs and certifies a User’s Design Specification shall meet either of the criteria shown below.
a) A Registered Professional Engineer who is registered in one or more of the states of the United States of America or the provinces of Canada and experienced in pressure vessel design.

b)  An Engineer experienced in pressure vessel design that meets all required qualifications to perform engineering work and any supplemental requirements stipulated by the Owner-User.  The Engineer shall identify the location under which he has received the authority to perform engineering work.
