is mandatory to calibrate or carry out a special calibration to the UT equipment by an external company?

I have heard that every year I have to send my equipment to calibrate, is this true?

Calibration is required by T-460 in Section V, for example in UT of welds, and T-560 for materials.
The frequency is 3 months for analog and 12 months for digital machines. This should be addressed in the UT procedure. I would suggest to ask the Level III about it. If he does not know the requirement, the AI doing inspection should be informed.

Subcontracting is neither required nor prohibited. Please follow your QA/QC program for subcontracting of services and for documentation of the calibration. In Section III you have some really tough controls to fulfill.

UT scope does not required to be calibrated by an outside company. If you provide NDE Services you can do your own calibration by performing linearity checks ie pre and post calibation, perform screen height and amplitude linearity check before you do the UT exam and once the UT exam been completed then do the post screen height and amplitude linearity check. You have to do the linearitycheck by procedure.
