Hi all,

acc. ASME VIII Div. 1 UG 37(h) the area of segmental reinforcement pad has to be reduced by using factor 0.75. (UG 37 (h)(1) and (2) does not apply in this case)
Additional to the pressure load we have to consider statical nozzle loads by connectet pipelines. ASME-Code does not rule statical load calculation, but by calculation of the nozzle loads, by WRC or FEA, the pressure load and statical loads have to be regarded together.

In reverse, does this mean, that, in statical nozzle load calculation, we have to consider the reduced area of the reinforcement pad about 25% or not?

Thanks in advance for response.

Rainer

Hi,
according to UG-23(c) the thickness shall be determined such that, for any combination of loadings listed in UG-22 (see UG-22(c)), that induce primary stresses (on my opinion your loadings will induce membrane primary stresses) and are expected to occur simultaneously (I think this is also the case) during normal operation of the vessel, etc.
The primary stresses are increased by the openings, therefor is the need for reinforcement to compensate this increase. If the reinforcement is not giving 100% compensation, this should be considered for all loading cases described above.

Rainer,

I think, in nozzle load calculation, you dont need to consider the reduced area of the reinforcement pad about 25%. You should consider it fully. By the way which analysis you are referring...WRCB-107 etc...?
