May a dished head designed as per VIII-1 be used in B31.1 construction?
Para. 104.4.1(B) of B31.1 permits the use of closures other than standard fittings (end caps etc) but reads about only unstayed flat heads designed as per PG-31 of Section I or UG-34 of VIII-1. This para 104.4.1(B) is silent about dished head. The valuable feed from all forum members is requested.
It should also be noted that B31.3 clearly permits VIII-1 designed dished heads in its construction as per Table 304.4.1.

Hi Javed,

Yes, it permits use of ASME SEC VIII heads. 104.4.1 says - caps manufactured in accordance with standards listed in Table 126.1.
ASME SEC VIII is listed in Table 126.1 as ASME BOILER & PRESSURE VESSEL CODE.

I do not agree with you.
I believe 104.4.1(A) reads about Standard Pressure Parts like Caps (B16.9), blind flanges (B16.5), dished heads are not standard pressure parts rather they are customized closures.
104.4.1(B) reads about customized closures.
