I know that a wear plate(for a saddle) should be the same material as the shell.
If my shell is SA-516-70, can I use an SA-36 wear plate since they are both carbon steel?

Thanks
Fernandez

I would say "yes", you may use SA-36.
I am not little uncertain about the applicapability of the requirements of UCS-6(b)(3) for wear plate for SA-36, any code expert is requested to intervene.

Yes you may, we have done so in the past on stamped Sec VIII vessels.

Cient has always called out for a weep hole to be placed in the contiuously welded wear plate saddles in our case.
