Dear All;

Please provide some information on the following:

Assuming reinforcement is not required - when / what criteria would you use to decide on the type of welded connection to a pressure vessel (apart from size/access due to size of nozzle/shell)?
Specifically - how would you decide to choose between Fig. UW 16.1(a&b) versus Fig. UW 16.1(c,d,&e); [as all of them are exempt from weld strength calculations as per UW-15 (b)]?

Thanks in advance

I am sure you know: It depends from size and thk. of nozzles vs. shell and the skill of your fitters and welders. But who will decide will be your Client, who, in the 90% of the cases will decide for you, without real technical justification. The engineering approving your drawing will impose you the "set-in" arrangement of UW-16.1 (c), (d) or (a). And nothing will count your common sense and protest. Apparently Engineering accept set-in only.
