Hi kareem.021181,
have a look to paragraph QW-322.2 “Renewal of Qualification”
Code:
(a) Renewal of qualification expired under QW-322.l(a) may be made for any process by welding a single test coupon of either plate or pipe, of any material, thickness or diameter, in any position, and by testing of that coupon as required by QW-301 and QW-302. A successful test renews the welder or welding operator's previous qualifications for that process for those materials, thicknesses, diameters, positions, and other variables for which he was previously qualified.
Providing the conditions of QW-304 and QW-305 are satisfied, renewal of qualification under QW-322.l(a) may be done on production work.
That means the essential variables for a renewal of a WPQ are:
- the welding process (see Interpretation IX-89-27)
- and the type (manual, machine etc) of process (see Interpretation IX-89-38)
only
Use a weld for the renewal regardless to:
- material (see Interpretation IX-83-154 )
- thickness (see Interpretation IX-86-19, IX-83-154)
- diameter (see Interpretation IX-92-12, IX-83-154)
- position (see Interpretation IX-86-19, IX-83-154)
- goove or corrosion-resistant weld metal overlay (Interpretation IX-92-22, IX-86-50)
1) He has to weld GTAW and SMAW regardless to the F-No. The qualification by visual and mechanical examinations or alternatively by RT is required. RT of a test coupon or at minimum 150 mm length of the first production weld(s) is permissible.
2.) Yes.
3.) The qualification ranges are these for which he was previously qualified.
