 Post subject: welder test

dear All senior
when i weld coupling 1/2" 3000# to shell plate OD 2000 mmx 16 mm THK, which OD i should follow for choice welder qualification?could i find it in ASME VIII div 1? i only have welder with range qualification from 25 mm till U/L
it's possible when i run welder test with 1/2" sch XXS process GTAW+SMAW for cover this matter.

Hi there,

The OD limits are used for groove weld. Weld coupling to shell plate is a kind of fillet weld. Per QW-451.4, all the grove tests qualified all the fillet sizes. You needn't do anything as long as the welder has the qualification of the same process. Hope this helps
