Hi there,

This is probably common practice but I would like to know what is involved when one holder of Certificate of Authorization is responsible for the design and another holder of Certificate of Authorization manufactures it?

Hello,

In general the design responsibility of the pressure vessel remains with the manufacturer.

Exceptions are e.g. the engineering contractor in Section I or a manufacturer ordering a part. They can take over the design responsibility for an item manufactured by others. However, let´s assume we are talking about a VIII-1 vessel, the design responsibility remains with the stampholder signing the MDR.

Thank you Michael,

Your answer reaffirms what I have been told.

Best regards,
