Hello

We are working on a project in Kelowna, Canada using tanks for a thermal storage system. This would be for Chilled water storage (5,000 gallons) - Closed System. We are having two major issues:

1. We have an option to use two tanks that are ASME certified but are very expensive ($30,000 canadian (about $31,000 US hee hee)), heavy and very difficult to install.

2. How do we determine if the tanks actually need to be ASME.

CSA 52 - indicates when boilers and certain pressure vessels need to be ASME...but we can not find anything in a ASME, CSA or our local codes that indicate "when" we need to use a ASME tank.

Thanks

Hello Bryan,

You can either look into the Scope of the ASME Code (paragraph U-1), or use the Code Finder on this website. Use this Link or go "Support & Services" and click on "Code Finder".
