We have a WPS qualified on 10 mm thk coupon plate SA 240 Type 304, With impact it gives qualification from 10 mm to 20 mm. It is done with GTAW. we have only this WPS.

The welder who has welded this WPS, is he qualified to weld 6 mm plates? Because for welder to weld it is the quality of weld that is important and if we buy that argument he can weld any plate between 1.5 to 20 mm.

Welder is qualified for weld thickness up to 20 mm.

Impact is required for production welding, not applicable for welder qualification. i believe you can even ask your welder to qualify using this WPS on plate thickness down to 1.5mm without consider supplementary essential variable on WPS.

Welder qualified up to max.20.
