Quick Question?
If i can see the required Wire on the film but the density is below 1.8 (single film veiw) Is this acceptable?
If yes Where is this in the code?
new to ASME
Thanks
Mike

Try T-282 of Section V, and the density below 1.8 is not acceptable.

Clarification, 1.8 is acceptable for X-Ray, but 2.0 for gamma. Is this correct?

Yeah, correct.

But a density below 1.8 is also below 2.0, for that reason I did not mention to ask for the source.

For a real evaluation I recomend to read the Code carefully, develop a good procedure and use it.

As an Inspector I would not hesitate to require requalification of a Level II or III who does not know about the density limits. Who knows what else he does not care about?! We need confidence that the RT poersonnel does the job correctly in accordance with the requirements.

I have been told that an x-ray film is acceptable when all wires are seen, but the density for this X-ray shot was 1.2 can any1 tell me where this is stated in the code?
MDK
Has any1 ever herd of this?

The required wire shall be seen AND the density shall be within the limits: 1.8 through 4 for X Ray and 2 through 4 for Gamma Rays. Composite film technique may be used (e.g 2 films packed together and assessed in the same way) in this case each of the two films shall have a density of 1.3 minimum and the maximum is still 4.

Good question: It means what it is written, but it makes no sense. :(
However the answer to your question is in the Paragraph before: UW-51(a)(2) ...demonstration of density and penetrameter image requirements...
